[LEFT]普萊絲的[/LEFT]"Ariel"

[LEFT]一星期前我把[/LEFT]普萊絲的 "Ariel" 中譯文帖子放在喜菡網上,幾天之後發現竟然被點閱一千餘次﹗受寵若驚之餘,我猜想大概有一群喜好英詩的人士,加上大眾對普萊絲她本人傳奇性的人生所引發的好奇,所以容我再借喜網一角,替"Ariel" 做更深一層的分析,讓大家知道什麼是好詩,到底好在哪裡?[/LEFT]
[LEFT]中詩與英詩的基礎是同樣的。講究的是意境、音韻、節奏﹔好詩不僅能引起讀者的共鳴,也代表了一個時代。普萊絲的詩還有一個特性,就是她所有的詩都是『自剖』性作品。她是美國少數Confessional Poets 之一。我們讀她的詩,就好像讀她的日記或自傳,沒有保留的呈現讀者眼前。她的詩源自心靈深處,她的掙扎、疑慮、憤怒、自嘲、失望、絕望、與最終的希望躍然紙上。她用字精簡,意象獨特,色彩鮮明,節奏鏗鏘有力,短短的一首詩裡有骨有肉,有血有淚。在上世紀六十年代女性主義抬頭的初期,普萊絲的確是個代表性的人物。[/LEFT]
[LEFT]"Ariel" [/LEFT]所押的韻是多元化的,頭韻尾韻以及半韻(Slant Rhyme, Half Rhyme) 眼韻(Eye Rhyme)都有。開頭膠著與晦暗的絲絲聲逐漸明朗成熾熱的"I" 韻,代表了自我的幻滅與新生。我把這兩個主要的音用不同的顏色勾出。讀者把詩朗誦幾次,就能領會。另外的幾個韻腳比較容易把握,如﹕

明眼的讀者馬上就明白為何坊間把Godiva 譯為『戈娃』是一大謬誤﹗這就是查字典『譯字』而非『譯詩』的鐵證。起碼也得把Godiva 譯為『戈娃』才對。[/LEFT][LEFT] [/LEFT][LEFT]詩的最後一字『morning』暗示了『mourning』。何以見得?詩的開頭『Pour of tor』就已埋下伏筆。作者挖空心思,用了 tor 這個冷字,目的就在如此﹗[/LEFT][LEFT] [/LEFT]
[LEFT]後記﹕普萊絲有一兒一女。她的小兒子[/LEFT], Nicholas Hughes, 這首詩裡所提到啼哭的小兒,也在2009 年自殺身亡。他曾經是阿拉斯加大學的教授。
